From Silent Films to Modern Hospitality
The GEM theater was Greencastle’s first motion picture theater and began with silent pictures soon upon its construction in 1910, it was followed by the first “talkies” or sound films in 1928. The GEM theater stage also hosted live vaudeville shows into the 1930’s. Throughout the 1960’s the theater hosted live music with many local musicians performing on stage. Today GEMMA, the great granddaughter of the original owner, has created GEM’S Alehouse and Woodfired kitchen to continue the long history of Greencastle hospitality.
